Week beginning - Monday 7th February

In English this week we have started looking at Kenning's poems. We shared lots of dinosaur themed Kenning's poems. In partners the children learnt a dinosaur Kenning poem and performed it to the rest of the class. After half term we will be learning about the features of a Kenning poem and planning and writing our own.

Year 2 campout

Year 2 have the most wonderful time at our class campout on Friday night. When the children arrived they had some time to play before having takeaway pizza for tea. After tea we played camping bingo and had delicious cupcakes made by Jack's Mum! At about 8pm, we headed into the forest school area for a campfire. The children toasted marshmallows and made smores! They also has hot chocolates! After this we returned back to base camp to play some games and get our pj's on.  The children's behaviour was outstanding, it was an absolute delight to be able to do this with our class.

Week beginning - Monday 8th November

 In Science this week we have been exploring a variety of materials and their names. We went on a materials hut to see what we could find in and around school! On Thursday 11th November we celebrated Remembrance Day; together we shared a Powerpoint presentation to help us identify and understand why this day is celebrated and why poppies are worn. After some very rich discussions around Remembrance Day,  the children had the opportunity to make their own poppy. These are displayed in the classroom and will go into 'Our Journey through prayer' book next week. As part of our Gender Equality Day on Monday, we did some work around Elmer the patchwork elephant. We shared the story and the designed our own elephant on reflection of what we had learnt about Gender Equality and inclusiveness that morning. Week 3 - Monday 20th September 2021

 Year 2 were excited to use the apparatus this week. They were able to recall their prior knowledge from these pieces of equipment from Year 1 and extend their learning by travelling in a wider variety of ways, in different directions and from differing heights.  In Geography this week, the children have been exploring aerial views. They have learnt that an aerial photograph is taken from above. Using a variety of resources, the children had the opportunity to make a messy map (an aerial view of the school grounds).  In English we have bee continuing with our talk for writing map and learning the story through actions. We spent some time discussing adjectives and how we could use these alongside our Three Little Pigs learning. We considered the: pigs, mother pig, cooking pot, house and wolf, sharing ideas of adjectives relating to these. Today the children independently wrote some sentences about these.
