Week beginning - Monday 21st February 2022

This week in maths we have been focusing our learning on statistics. On Monday we learnt about tally charts and recording data. The following day we went into the village to collect our very own data! We walked to the duck pond and collected data about the traffic; using tally's, we recorded each time we saw a: car, van, lorry, tractor, bus, bike or motorbike. Using the data we had collected, the children then made their own pictograms. We are going to continue looking at tables, graphs and charts and the data we have collected.     In English this week we have continued looking in-depth at the different features of a Kenning's poem. The children also used dictionaries to support themselves in finding out the meanings of some dinosaur-specific language. In geography the children worked in small groups to research a specific continent. After collecting their information, each group had the opportunity to teach the rest of the class what they had found out. The children recorded

Week beginning - Monday 7th February

In English this week we have started looking at Kenning's poems. We shared lots of dinosaur themed Kenning's poems. In partners the children learnt a dinosaur Kenning poem and performed it to the rest of the class. After half term we will be learning about the features of a Kenning poem and planning and writing our own.   

Week beginning - Monday 31st January - Dinosaur Week

We began the week with a class Story Cafe, focusing our learning around a new fiction text called The Girl and the Dinosaur. We began by sharing he book and then the children caroucelled around the classroom partaking in a variety of activities. 1) Designing an imaginary world 2) Writing a story influenced by the book 3) Writing a poem influenced by the poem in he book 4) A book review 5) A dream jar, influenced by the dreams that Marianne had In afternoon we came together as a whole school to discuss possible design ideas for our T-Rex! We then went back into our own classes to complete our designs, coming back together at the end to share ideas.   On Tuesday we caroucelled around in our houses as a whole school. Completing different dinosaur related cross curricular activities. The children learning about omnivores, herbivores and carnivores and made lunch for a dinosaur, they compared the size of a T-rex's foot to the size of ours, drew life size dinosaurs and made dinosaur foss
