Week beginning - Monday 9th January 2022


Year 2 were very excited for hockey on Monday. On Monday we focused on dribbling. We recapped what we had learnt in Year 1 and discussed how we can use what we already know to support us in furthering our learning and development in hockey. The children began by dribbling in an open space, focusing on where they were looking, how they were holding the hockey stick and considering the speed in which they were travelling. I then set up 5 stations for the children to carousel around; the stations varied in trickiness. 















 

We began designing the front covers for our new topic books this week. We learnt the technique of tracing. The children chose a dinosaur picture each and traced it, using tracing paper. They then transferred their picture onto paper. We learnt that we need to press really hard when tracing. Next week we are going to add colour, either by using pastels or water colour paints. 













Over the last week we have learnt a vast amount of information about Mary Anning, we have learnt this by researching her using a wide variety of resources. After identifying her life events, we arranged them on a timeline. The children matched pictures to the sentences. 






















We also learnt about headings and sub-headings in preparation for writing our own information leaflets. The children arranged the key information about Mary Anning under the appropriate headings. 












In Maths this week our learning has been focused aroud money. We began by recapping the value of all the coins and notes. Applying what the children already knew, they were able to count the total value of a group of coins and notes. The children also explored partitioning into pounds and pence. Next week we will further our understanding of money. 




































In history, through research, we identified why Mary Anning is a significant person. The children then sketched a picture of Mary Anning and painted it using water colours. We are going to display these in our classroom.

Week beginning - Monday 13th June 2022

 Last week in science we were identifying the parts of a plant. The child have been able to recall the names of the parts of a plant well. The children used different materials to represent the different parts of a plant. On completion of their model, the children labelled their creations! This week the children have been learning about the functions of the parts of a plant, they recorded these in a table.  We have begun our athletics learning and preparation for sports day. This week the children recalled and added to their knowledge of long jump. We discussed the technique in detail and it was modelled to the children before having a go themselves. The children measured their own jumps using the metre sticks. Week 2 - Monday 13th September 2021

This week we enjoyed being Geographers! Using a map of the school the children negotiated their way round and decided whether different features within the school grounds were human or physical. We shared a Powerpoint presentation to remind ourselves of what human and physical features were, along with the examples on the Powerpoint, the children were able to give their own examples too. The children used the map that I had made for them but were very resourceful in adding additional diagrams and labels to their maps.
